These units are not blank slates—they are haunted, storied, and capable of remembering victory… or failure. Carapace units fall into several archetypes, each designed to reflect a specific approach to warfare, memory, and survival.

The Cruciform

“To stand, to shield, to endure.”
– Role: Defender / Frontline
– Core Traits: High durability, support-focused memory slots, defensive aura modules

Signature Features:
– Structural Reinforcement Grid
– Memory Repeater: Can copy memory effects from nearby allies
– Sanctified Bastion: Absorbs damage meant for others

Once deployed to hold the walls of dying civilizations. Now they hold the line in silence.

The Severant

“To cut, to strike, to end.”
– Role: Striker / Assassin
– Core Traits: High mobility, critical strike mechanics, volatile memory patterns

Signature Features:
– Blink Array or Phantom Limb Systems
– Blade-encoded Memory Fragments
– Self-scarring combat mode (trades HP for initiative/accuracy)

Born to duel in ritualized bloodsport arenas, Severants kill like a psalm screamed through metal.

The Canticle

“To echo, to disrupt, to awaken.”
– Role: Resonance Support / Area Control
– Core Traits: Manipulates memory fields, battlefield control, overload mechanics

Signature Features:
– Mnemosurge Emitters
– Zone of Reclamation: Recovers memory fragments from the battlefield
– Disruptive Choral Nodes: Interfere with enemy memory resolution

Not built to destroy, but to change the song. To remember a different outcome into being.

Support Units
While your Carapace is the heart of your force, missions also allow deployment of support units—limited in power but critical to victory. These may include:
– Echo-Drones: Automated recon units with limited memory channels
– Gospeller Infantry: Monastic warriors sworn to protect the Carapace
– Scarab Wreckers: Fast salvage units that can scavenge memory from destroyed enemies
– Tether Relays: Temporary structures that stabilize decaying memory fields

Each support unit comes with its own stat card and upgrade path—some may even remember you.

Carapace Construction

Each Carapace is built from modular systems:
– Carapace Type (Cruciform, Severant, Canticle)
– Weapon Systems (hand-held, weapon-mount, or integrated)
– Memory Slots (Fragment, Battle Scar, Echo)
– Relic Systems (power systems, emitters, circuits)

These systems grow or degrade over time. Your loadout at mission start may not be the same at the end.
